  • There were two seasons of Sports Night with a total of 45 episodes

  • The Pilot episode originally aired on September 22, 1998

  • The series finale "Quo Vadimus" aired on May 16, 2000

  • This was creator Aaron Sorkin's first foray into television after writing the movies A Few Good Men, Malice, and The American President

  • Sorkin's other television venture, The West Wing, started one year after Sports Night in 1999

  • Sports Night originally aired on ABC, but wasn't given much of a chance.  It was cancelled after two seasons.  There was talk of a move to another network, possibly even HBO, that never materialized.  It found some new life in a brief syndication run on Comedy Central

  • 1999 - Outstanding Direction for a Comedy Series (Thomas Schlamme; "Pilot")

  • 2000 - Outstanding Cinematography for a Multi-Camera Series (Peter Smokler; "The Cut Man Cometh")

  • The show was also nominated for 5 other Emmys:

  • 2000 - Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series 

  • 2000 - Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series (Thomas Schlamme; "Quo Vadimus")

  • 2000 - Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Series (Janet Ashikaga; "The Cut Man Cometh")

  • 2000 - Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series (William H. Macy for playing Sam Donovan)

  • Felicity Huffman was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2000 for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series - Comedy/Musical

  • Sports Night won the Director's Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Comedy Series in 1999 and 2000

  • The show also won the 1999 Television Critics Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and it won the 1999 Humanitas Prize in the 30-minute category
