Nebraska Bruce Springsteen When making my pick of the best of Springsteen's albums, I'll take Nebraska over the pure bombast of Born to Run and the bitter nostalgia of Born in the USA every time. Nebraska is The Boss at his most stripped down, and it allows for his strong songwriting to shine through. The stark despair of the opening title track and "Atlantic City," arguably his best song, start the album off on an extremely high note, and it stays at a high level throughout. "Highway Patrolman" examines the importance of sticking by your family when nobody else would. Those ties are too strong to break. There's nothing shiny or upbeat on the album. It easily qualifies as Springsteen's dark, powerful masterpiece. |
